NABP’s Electronic Licensure Transfer Program® (e-LTPTM) enables licensed pharmacists to easily transfer their existing pharmacist license to one or more states or jurisdictions. NABP facilitates the licensure transfer process on behalf of its member boards of pharmacy, who ultimately make the licensure decision.

New Online Application Now Available
On April 2, 2018, NABP launched an upgraded online system that provides a completely paperless application process for licensure transfer. If you submitted a licensure transfer application prior to our system change on April 2, 2018, review e-LTP FAQ #17.
Each state board of pharmacy has a set of requirements that a pharmacist seeking licensure transfer must meet before the board will issue a license to practice pharmacy. Before submitting an application for licensure transfer, review the requirements for all states where you wish to transfer your license. Some states require an appearance before the board, a criminal background check, and/or a state transfer application. A few jurisdictions require a state law examination other than NABP’s Multistate Pharmacy Jurisprudence Examination. In addition, some states require that you pass the MPJE before submitting your licensure transfer application.
It is your responsibility to know the boards specific requirements and fees and to ensure that you have satisfied all requirements and submitted fees within appropriate timelines.

The Licensure Transfer (e-LTP) Process
After you log into your NABP e-Profile and complete and submit the e-LTP application, NABP verifies the information you provided. As part of this process, your existing license(s) undergoes a background check and is screened through the NABP Clearinghouse, a national repository of pharmacist information supplied by the state boards of pharmacy. NABP compiles all of this and electronically sends it to the board of pharmacy for final review.
Allow sufficient time to complete the entire licensure transfer process – the time can vary depending on the applicant and the board of pharmacy.
Submit Application to NABP
The Licensure Transfer application will save entered information – you can start the application and come back to it at your convenience. Once you submit the application, NABP will begin the review process, which can take 3-5 business days. Additional time may be needed if you have disciplinary actions against any of your licenses.
Before submitting your e-LTP application, it is your responsibility to contact the boards of pharmacy in the jurisdictions where you are seeking licensure to obtain information on fees and documentation required by the board(s). In addition, you are responsible for ensuring that all fees and board-specific documentation is submitted to the board within appropriate timelines.
When filling out the application, be prepared to provide the information listed below:
- A recent, full-faced, passport-quality photograph for upload
- Education history
- Practical experience before your original license was issued (eg, internship hours)
- Examination history
- All pharmacist license information, including current, active licenses and expired, inactive, lapsed, etc, licenses.
- Last three years of employment related to pharmacy
- Disclosures of actions on pharmacist license
NABP Submits Application to Board of Pharmacy
Once your application is successfully processed, NABP electronically submits your application to the applicable board(s) of pharmacy for evaluation. The board of pharmacy in jurisdictions where you are applying for licensure transfer will make the final decision regarding if a license is issued.
Once the board receives your application from NABP, they will review it, assess your fulfillment of its other requirements, and, if the board deems you qualified, issue you a license to practice pharmacy in that state or jurisdiction. Applicants do not need to contact the board to let them know that the application is available.
Make sure that you are aware of the board(s) requirements for transfer, including separate state applications, fees, required supplemental documentation, and how they want the applications submitted. Some states require that the licensure transfer application be printed and mailed to them by the applicant. Make sure to review the board(s) website for information on the process.
State Law Examination
Many states require you to successfully complete a law examination before they issue a license by licensure transfer. Be sure to check with the applicable board of pharmacy to determine its requirements. In addition, some boards may have study materials available for the MPJE.
The MPJE is established as a required law examination in 49 jurisdictions. If you register for the MPJE when you submit the Licensure Transfer Application, you may decrease the total processing time for your licensure transfer. Review the NAPLEX/MPJE bulletin for more information.
Individuals seeking to transfer licensure to the following states must pass the MPJE prior to submitting a Licensure Transfer application.
NABP confirms eligibility to test for candidates who request exams in these 6 states. There is an $85 fee for the eligibility request. Visit the MPJE section of the website to find out more about taking the MPJE and the eligibility process for these states.

Armed Forces Discount
NABP offers discounts for members of the armed forces and their spouses. Active members, reserves, and veterans of the armed forces will receive an unlimited number of complimentary licensure transfers. Their spouses will be reimbursed for 50% of the application fee and 50% of the additional state fee. All submissions are made via your e-Profile, not through email correspondence. NABP does not provide refunds, credits, or prorated billing for licensure transfer applications that have been submitted to NABP. You will not receive a refund if:
- you request your licensure transfer application be canceled after it has been submitted to NABP.
- you request to cancel one or more state on a licensure transfer application after it has been submitted.
- NABP finds that you do not meet the minimum requirements for licensure transfer and your application is canceled.
- the state board of pharmacy receives your licensure transfer application and rejects your application because you do not meet their requirements for licensure transfer.
If you cancel your application, you will not receive a refund from NABP. If you would like to cancel the licensure transfer application that you have submitted, contact NABP at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Additional State/Change of State
Once an application has been submitted to NABP, no changes can be made to the transfer states. No additional states can be added to a submitted application, and no transfer states can be changed from one state to another on a submitted application. You will need to submit a new application once the existing application has been processed and submitted to the applicable boards of pharmacy.
